- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (See INITIALIZATION ).

- REMOVE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY

- REMOVE BATTERY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE NO. 1 BATTERY TRAY SUPPORT
- REMOVE POWER STEERING ECU ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE BATTERY TRAY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE ENGINE ROOM ECU COVER (See REMOVAL )
- DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS
- Remove the 3 connectors and connector clamp.
- Using a screwdriver, detach the claw and disconnect the No. 4 connector holder
- Disconnect the 5 connectors and grommet from the engine room ECU box
- Disconnect the 8 connectors and 3 clamps.
- Disconnect the 5 connectors and 7 clamps.
- Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the 2 ground wires.
- Remove the No. 1 engine room relay block cover.
- Remove the bolt, and disconnect the ground cable.
- Remove the bolt, and disconnect the clamp and ground cable.
- REMOVE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1)

- REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT (See REMOVAL )
- DISCONNECT NO. 1 COOLER REFRIGERANT SUCTION HOSE (See REMOVAL )
- DISCONNECT DISCHARGE HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- SEPARATE COMPRESSOR AND PULLEY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE NO. 2 IDLER PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE OIL PUMP DRIVE SHAFT PULLEY
- Using SST, hold the oil pump drive shaft pulley.
SST 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-00600)
- Remove the 4 bolts and oil pump drive shaft pulley.
- Using SST, hold the oil pump drive shaft pulley.
- REMOVE WATER PUMP PULLEY (See REMOVAL )
- DISCONNECT NO. 2 RADIATOR HOSE (See REMOVAL )
- DISCONNECT NO. 5 WATER BY-PASS HOSE (See REMOVAL )
- DISCONNECT WATER INLET HOSE (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE NO. 3 WATER BY-PASS HOSE (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE WATER INLET HOUSING (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE NO. 2 WATER BY-PASS PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE NO. 4 V-BANK COVER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE NO. 3 V-BANK COVER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE FRONT WATER BY-PASS JOINT (See DISASSEMBLY )
- REMOVE OIL FILTER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 2 bolts and oil filter bracket stay
- Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and oil filter bracket sub-assembly
- Remove the 2 gaskets from the oil filter bracket sub-assembly
- REMOVE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE CRANKSHAFT TIMING GEAR KEY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE TIMING GEAR CASE OR TIMING CHAIN CASE OIL SEAL (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (for Bank 1) (See DISASSEMBLY )
- REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Bank 2) (See DISASSEMBLY )
- REMOVE SPARK PLUG TUBE GASKET (See DISASSEMBLY )
- REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY (See DISASSEMBLY )
- REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING CONTROL MOTOR ASSEMBLY LH (for Bank 1) (See DISASSEMBLY )
- REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING CONTROL MOTOR ASSEMBLY RH (for Bank 2) (See DISASSEMBLY )
- REMOVE TIMING CHAIN COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 30 bolts and nut shown in the illustration.
- Remove the timing chain cover by prying between the timing chain cover and cylinder head and cylinder block with a screwdriver as shown in the illustration.NOTE: Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the cylinder head, cylinder block and chain cover.
HINT
Tape the screwdriver tip before use
- Remove the oil pump gasket from the cylinder block.
- Remove the O-ring from the cylinder block.
- REMOVE INLET WATER PIPE
- Remove the inlet water pipe
- Remove the 2 O-rings from the inlet water pipe
- REMOVE NO. 1 OIL PIPE (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE NO. 2 OIL PIPE (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE NO. 3 OIL PIPE (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE SCAVENGING PUMP ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
