Shift Lever: Removal

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait for at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent airbag deployment.
    NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (See INITIALIZATION ).
  2. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB 
    1. Remove the shift lever knob.

  3. REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL UPPER FRONT  (See REMOVAL )
  4. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LOWER  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY RH  (See REMOVAL )
  8. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH  (See REMOVAL )
  9. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER  (See REMOVAL )
  10. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY NO.2  (See REMOVAL )
  11. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  12. REMOVE FLOOR CARPET COVER CENTER RH  (See REMOVAL )
  13. REMOVE FLOOR CARPET COVER CENTER LH  (See REMOVAL )
  14. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LOWER CENTER  (See REMOVAL )
  15. SEPARATE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a screwdriver, disconnect the cable end from the shift lever assembly.

    2. Pull out the stopper cap of the transmission control cable assembly.

    3. Turn the socket of the transmission control cable counterclockwise and remove the stopper cap.
      NOTE: Do not push in the stopper cap.

  16. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER 
    1. Disconnect the pattern select switch connector, the shift lock control computer connector and the indicator light wire connector.

    2. Remove the 4 nuts and disconnect the shift lever assembly from the vehicle.
