Steering Column Assembly: Inspection

  1. INSPECT TILT MOTOR 
    1. Inspect the tilt motor
      1. Apply battery voltage to the tilt motor connector, and check the steering wheel tilt operation

        OK 

        MEASUREMENT SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

        Measurement Condition Specified Condition
        Battery positive (+) → Terminal 1 (TIM+)
        Battery negative (-) → Terminal 2 (TIM-)        		 Steering wheel tilts up

      2. Apply battery voltage to the tilt motor connector, and check the steering wheel tilt operation

        OK 

        MEASUREMENT SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

        Measurement Condition Specified Condition
        Battery positive (+) → Terminal 2 (TIM-)
        Battery negative (-) → Terminal 1 (TIM+)        		 Steering wheel tilts down

        If the steering wheel does not tilt down, replace the steering column assembly

  2. INSPECT TELESCOPIC MOTOR 
    1. Disconnect connector A from the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU
    2. Inspect the telescopic motor.
      1. Apply battery voltage to the telescopic motor connector, and check the steering column operation.

        OK 

        MEASUREMENT SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

        Measurement Condition Specified Condition
        Battery positive (+) → Terminal A-1 (TEM+)
        Battery negative (-) → Terminal A-3 (TEM-)        		 Steering column contracts

      2. Apply battery voltage to the telescopic motor connector, and check the steering column operation.

        OK 

        MEASUREMENT SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

        Measurement Condition Specified Condition
        Battery positive (+) → Terminal A-3 (TEM-)
        Battery negative (-) → Terminal A-1 (TEM+)        		 Steering column extends

        If the steering column operation does not match the specified condition, replace the steering column
