Back Window Glass: Installation: Installation

  1. INSTALL BACK WINDOW OUTSIDE MOULDING 
    1. Apply Primer G to the installation part of a new back window outside moulding.

      HINT: 

      If primer is applied to an area that is not specified, wipe off the primer with a non-residue solvent before it dries.

    2. Install the new back window outside moulding onto the back window glass as shown in the illustration.

      NOTE:
      • Allow the primer to dry for 3 minutes or more.
      • Do not keep any of the opened Primer G for later use.
      • Do not apply too much primer.

      HINT: 

      Use the same procedure for the RH side and the LH side.

  2. INSTALL BACK WINDOW GLASS ADHESIVE DAM 
    1. Apply Primer G to the installation part of a new back window glass adhesive dam.

      HINT: 

      If primer is applied to an area that is not specified, wipe off the primer with a non-residue solvent before it dries.

    2. Install the new back window glass adhesive dam, applying double-sided tape all the way around the glass except where the dam is installed, as shown in the illustration.

      • Do not apply too much primer.

  3. INSTALL BACK WINDOW LOWER OUTSIDE MOULDING 
    1. Apply Primer G to the installation part of a new back window lower outside moulding.

      HINT: 

      If primer is applied to an area that is not specified, wipe off the primer with a non-residue solvent before it dries.

    2. Install the new back window lower outside moulding onto the back window glass as shown in the illustration.

  4. INSTALL BACK WINDOW GLASS 
    1. Using a brush, coat the installation surface on the vehicle body with Primer M.

      NOTE:
      • Do not coat the adhesive with Primer M.
      • Do not apply too much primer.
      • Allow the primer coating to dry for 3 minutes or more.
      • Do not keep any of the opened Primer M for later use.

      HINT: 

      If an area other than specified is coated by accident, wipe off the primer with a clean piece of cloth before it dries.

    2. Using a brush or sponge, coat the adhesive application area with Primer G.

    3. Apply adhesive to the glass.

      Adhesive

      Toyota Genuine Windshield Glass Adhesive or equivalent

      1. Cut off the tip of the cartridge nozzle as shown in the illustration.

        HINT: 

        After cutting off the tip, use all adhesive within the time described in the table below.

        Usage Time Frame

        Temperature Usage Time frame
        35°C (95°F) 15 minutes
        20°C (68°F) 1 hour and 40 minutes
        5°C (41°F) 8 hours
      2. Load the sealer gun with the cartridge.
      3. Apply adhesive to the back window glass as shown in the illustration.

    4. Install the back window glass assembly.

      1. Install the back window glass assembly withe the 4 clips
        NOTE:
        • Allow the primer coating to dry for 3 minutes or more.
        • Check that the clips are attached to the body correctly.
        • Check the clearance between the body and glass.
      2. Lightly press the front surface of the back window glass to ensure a close fit.

        HINT: 

        Press the glass with force of 98 N (10 kgf, 22 lbf) or more.

      3. Hold the back window glass using protective tape until the applied adhesive becomes hard.
        NOTE:

        Do not drive the vehicle for the time described in the table below.

        Minimum Time

        Temperature Minimum Time prior to Driving Vehicle
        35°C (95°F) 1 hour and 30 minutes
        20°C (68°F) 5 hours
        5°C (41°F) 24 hours
    5. Install the 2 nuts.

    6. Connect the 2 back window defogger connectors.

  5. INSTALL BACK WINDOW PACKING 
    1. Install the back window packing.

  6. INSTALL QUARTER PILLAR GARNISH LH  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 3
  7. INSTALL QUARTER PILLAR GARNISH RH 

    HINT: 

    Use the same procedure for the RH side and the LH side.

  8. INSTALL REAR ROOF HEADLINING GARNISH 
    1. Engage the 5clips to install the rear roof headlining garnish.

  9. INSTALL ROOF SIDE INNER GARNISH LH 
    1. Engage the 2 claws and 4 clips to install the roof side inner garnish LH.

  10. INSTALL ROOF SIDE INNER GARNISH RH 

    HINT: 

    Use the same procedure for the RH side and the LH side.

  11. CLOSE METALTOP ROOF 
    1. Close the metaltop roof.
  12. INSPECT FOR LEAKS AND REPAIR 
    1. After the adhesive has hardened, apply water from the outside of the vehicle. Check that no water leaks into the cabin.
    2. If water leaks into the cabin, allow the water to dry and add adhesive.
    3. Remove the protective tape.
