On-Vehicle Inspection [05/2019 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK FUEL PUMP OPERATION AND INSPECT FOR FUEL LEAK 
    1. Check fuel pump operation.
      1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
      2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
        NOTE:

        Do not start the engine.

      3. Turn the Techstream on.
      4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Active the Circuit Relay.

        Powertrain > Engine > Active Test 

        Tester Display
        Activate the Circuit Relay
      5. Check for pressure in the fuel tube sub-assembly from the fuel pipe. Check that sounds of fuel flowing from the fuel tank assembly can be heard. If no sounds can be heard, check the relay, fuel pump assembly, ECM and wiring connectors.
    2. Inspect for fuel leaks.
      1. Check that there are no fuel leaks from the fuel system after doing any maintenance or repairs. If there is a fuel leak, repair or replace parts as necessary.
    3. Turn the engine switch off.
    4. Disconnect the Techstream from the DLC3.
  2. CHECK FUEL PRESSURE 
    1. Discharge the fuel system pressure.

      Refer to PRECAUTION [05/2019 - ] 

    2. Using a voltmeter, measure the battery voltage.

      Standard voltage

      11 to 14 V

    3. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      NOTE:

      When disconnecting and reconnecting the negative (-) battery terminal.

      Refer to WORK PROCEDURE [05/2019 - ]

    4. Remove the fuel pump protector.
    5. Disconnect the fuel tube sub-assembly from the fuel pump assembly.

    6. Install SST (EFI fuel pressure gauge) as shown in the illustration.

    7. Disconnect the fuel tube sub-assembly from the fuel delivery pipe.

    8. Install SST (EFI fuel pressure gauge) as shown in the illustration.

      *a SST (Hose Band)

    9. Wipe up any spilled fuel.
    10. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    11. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    12. Turn the engine switch on (IG)
      NOTE:

      Do not start the engine.

    13. Turn the Techstream on.
    14. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Active the Circuit Relay.

      Powertrain > Engine > Active Test 

      Tester Display
      Activate the Circuit Relay

      Standard fuel Pressure

      196 to 833 kPa (2.0 to 8.5 kgf/cm2 , 28 to 121 psi)

      • If fuel pressure is more than the standard, inspect the pressure discharge valve assembly.
      • If fuel pressure is less than the standard, inspect the fuel hoses and connectors, fuel pump assembly, fuel filter and fuel pressure discharge valve assembly.
    15. Start the engine.
    16. Measure the fuel pressure at idle.

      Standard fuel pressure

      196 to 833 kPa (2.0 to 8.5 kgf/cm2 , 28 to 121 psi)

      HINT: 

      Refer to standard idle speed.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [05/2019 - ]

    17. Stop the engine.
    18. After checking the fuel pressure, disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal and carefully remove SST to prevent fuel from spraying.
      NOTE:

      When disconnecting and reconnecting the negative (-) battery terminal.

      Refer to WORK PROCEDURE [05/2019 - ]

      HINT: 

      When disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, there is an automatic learning function that completes learning when the respective system is used.

    19. Install the fuel tube sub-assembly to the fuel delivery pipe.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3 [10/2014 - ]

    20. Install the fuel tube sub-assembly to the fuel pump assembly.

      Refer to PRECAUTION [05/2019 - ] 

    21. Install the fuel pump protector.
    22. Inspect for fuel leaks.
  3. CHECK FUEL PRESSURE (for High Pressure) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the Techstream on.
    3. Start and warm up the engine.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Fuel Pressure (High).

      Powertrain > Engine > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Fuel Pressure (High)

      Standard fuel pressure

      3400 to 8000 kPa (34.7 to 81.6 kgf/cm2 , 493 to 1160 psi)

  4. ACTIVE TEST (Control the Select Cylinder Fuel Cut) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the Techstream on.
    3. Start the engine, then enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the Select Cylinder Fuel Cut. Select a cylinder from #1 to #4.

      Powertrain > Engine > Active Test

      Control the Select Cylinder Fuel Cut

      HINT: 

      Perform this procedure with the vehicle stopped and the engine idling.

    4. After stopping injection of the cylinder for which the Active Test was performed, check the idling state.

      Standard

      The idling speed varies.

      HINT: 

      Perform a test for each cylinder. It is not possible to test multiple cylinders at once.
