*3 Reserve Tank Cap *4 Air Drain Cock Plug
    4. Loosen the cylinder block drain cock plug (for Bank 2).
    5. Remove the reserve tank cap.

      HINT:

Collect the engine coolant in a container and dispose of it according to the regulations in your area.

    6. Tighten the radiator drain cock plug by hand.
    7. Close the cylinder block drain cock plug (for Bank 2).

      Torque: 12.7 N*m (130 kgf*cm, 9 ft.*lbf)

    8. Disconnect the hose from the cylinder block drain cock (for Bank 2).
    9. Disconnect the hose from the radiator drain cock.
  5. ADD ENGINE COOLANT
    1. Using a 6 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the air drain cock plug.

      *1 Air Drain Cock Plug
    2. Remove the packing from the air drain cock plug.
    3. Install a new packing to the air drain cock plug.
    4. Add engine coolant to the radiator reserve tank assembly until engine coolant overflows from the air drain cock hole. Then using a 6 mm hexagon socket wrench, install the air drain cock plug.

      Torque: 1.5 N*m (15 kgf*cm, 13 in.*lbf)

    5. Add engine coolant to the level shown in the illustration.

      Specified Capacity

11.6 liters (12.3 US qts, 10.2 Imp. qts)

      NOTE:

Do not substitute plain water for engine coolant.

      HINT:

LEXUS vehicles are filled with TOYOTA SLLC at the factory. In order to avoid damaging the engine cooling system and other technical problems, only use TOYOTA SLLC or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite, non-borate coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology (coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology is a combination of low phosphates and organic acids).

      *a Full Line
      *b Low Line
    6. Squeeze the No. 1 radiator hose and No. 2 radiator hose several times by hand, and then check the level of the engine coolant.

If the engine coolant level is low, add engine coolant.

    7. Install the reserve tank cap. [*1]
    8. Start the engine and stop it immediately. [*2]
    9. Allow approximately 10 seconds to pass, and then remove the reserve tank cap and check the engine coolant level. If the engine coolant level has decreased, add engine coolant. [*3]
    10. Repeat steps [*1], [*2] and [*3] until the engine coolant level does not decrease.

      HINT:

Be sure to perform this step while the engine is cold, as air in the No. 2 radiator hose will flow into the radiator assembly if the engine is warmed up and the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly opens.

    11. Install the reserve tank cap.
    12. Bleed air from the cooling system.
      NOTE:
      • Before starting the engine, turn the A/C switch off.
      • Adjust the heater control to the maximum hot setting.
      • Adjust the blower speed to the low setting.
      1. Warm up the engine until the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly opens. While the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly is open, circulate the engine coolant for several minutes.

        HINT:

The water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly open timing can be confirmed by squeezing the No. 2 radiator hose by hand, and sensing vibrations when the engine coolant starts to flow inside the No. 2 radiator hose.

      2. Squeeze the No. 1 radiator hose and No. 2 radiator hose several times by hand to bleed air.
        WARNING:
        • Because the engine, radiator assembly, No. 1 radiator hose and No. 2 radiator hose are extremely hot, do not perform these procedures without wearing protective gloves.

        • Performing these procedures without wearing protective gloves could result in burns.
        • When checking the thermostat open timing, do not touch rotating components such as the cooling fan.

        • Touching rotating components such as the cooling fan could result in your hand or clothing getting caught and pulled in.
        NOTE:
        • Make sure that the radiator reserve tank assembly still has some engine coolant in it.
        • If the engine coolant temperature gauge indicates an excessive temperature, turn off the engine and let it cool.
        • If there is not enough engine coolant, the engine may overheat or be seriously damaged.
        • If the radiator reserve tank assembly does not have enough engine coolant, perform the following: 1) stop the engine, 2) wait until the engine coolant cools down, and 3) add engine coolant until the radiator reserve tank assembly is filled to the full line.
    13. Stop the engine, and wait until the engine coolant cools down.
    14. Remove the reserve tank cap and check the engine coolant level.

If the engine coolant level is low, add engine coolant.

    15. Add engine coolant to the full line on the radiator reserve tank assembly.
  6. INSPECT FOR COOLANT LEAK

Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  7. INSTALL REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER RH
    1. Engage the claw and install the rear engine under cover RH to the vehicle.
    2. Install the 3 screws.
  8. INSTALL CENTER NO. 4 ENGINE UNDER COVER

    See step  8

  9. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2 [10/2015 - 09/2017] or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2 [09/2017 - ]
