Inspection [09/2014 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSPECT OIL PUMP RELIEF VALVE
    1. Coat the oil pump relief valve with engine oil and check that it falls smoothly into the valve hole by its own weight.

      HINT:

If the oil pump relief valve does not fall smoothly, replace it. If necessary, replace the timing chain cover assembly.

  2. INSPECT OIL PUMP ROTOR SET
    1. Apply engine oil to the oil pump rotor set.
    2. Install the oil pump rotor set to the timing chain cover assembly with the marks facing up. Check that the oil pump rotor set rotates smoothly.

      HINT:

If the oil pump rotor set does not rotate smoothly, replace the timing chain cover assembly.

    3. Check the tip clearance.

      *a Feeler Gauge
      1. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the drive and driven rotor tips as shown in the illustration.

        Standard Tip Clearance

        0.180 to 0.300 mm (0.00709 to 0.0118 in.)

        Maximum Tip Clearance

        0.300 mm (0.0118 in.)

        HINT:

If the tip clearance is more than the maximum, replace the oil pump rotor set.

    4. Check the side clearance.

      *a Precision Straightedge
      *b Feeler Gauge
      1. Using a feeler gauge and precision straightedge, measure the clearance between the rotors and precision straightedge as shown in the illustration.

        Standard Side Clearance

        0.030 to 0.060 mm (0.00118 to 0.00236 in.)

        Maximum Side Clearance

        0.060 mm (0.00236 in.)

        HINT:

If the side clearance is more than the maximum, replace the oil pump rotor set. If necessary, replace the timing chain cover assembly.

    5. Check the body clearance.

      *a Feeler Gauge
      1. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the timing chain cover assembly and driven rotor as shown in the illustration.

        Standard Body Clearance

        0.175 to 0.250 mm (0.00689 to 0.0984 in.)

        Maximum Body Clearance

        0.250 mm (0.00984 in.)

        HINT:

If the body clearance is more than the maximum, replace the oil pump rotor set. If necessary, replace the timing chain cover assembly.
