Compressor Servicing
- Compressor drive components (clutch and pulley assembly, clutch coil, and shaft seal assembly) can be serviced with the compressor on the car although it will be more convenient, to remove the compressor so that, it can be worked on at the bench.
- Completely discharge refrigerant from system. If compressor being removed from car, disconnect refrigerant lines and cap lines and service ports immediately to prevent toss of oil or entry of foreign material and moisture. Measure and record oil level in compressor so that same level can be reestablished when compressor reinstalled on engine.
- Disconnect clutch coil lead, loosen and remove compressor pulley belts. Remove compressor-to-bracket attaching bolts, lift compressor off and place on bench. Thoroughly clean entire compressor before disassembling any parts and make certain work area is completely clean.
- When reinstalling compressor on engine, check and adjust oil level, rotate crankshaft at least two full turns by hand before connecting drive belts to clear any oil accumulation from cylinder heads before compressor is operated. This will prevent possible damage to reed valves.
