Turbocharger - Diesel: Testing

  1. Connect a "T" fitting into the line between intake manifold plenum and altitude/ boost compensator. Attach a 1-15 psi (0.0-1.0 kg/cm (2) ) pressure gauge. Raise rear wheels and block front of vehicle.
  2. Apply brakes. Place transmission in "DRIVE" position. Run engine at 2500 rpm. Boost pressure should stabilize at 11.6 psi (.8 kg/cm (2) ). If pressure stabilizes at proper pressure, wastegate system is okay.
NOTE: DO NOT  operate engine at 2500 rpm with brakes applied for more than 30 seconds. After running test, run engine at 1000 rpm for 1 minute to cool transmission.
  3. If pressure is not as specified, check and replace or repair the following components:
    • Wastegate diaphragm.
    • Hose connections.
    • Turbocharger.
    • Pressure regulator.
