Seats - Power: Description

There are 2 types of 6-way power seat, a rack and pinion drive or a screw-type drive. Tempo and Topaz models may be equipped with a powered driver seat only. All other models may be equipped with both driver and passenger powered front seats. The 6-way power seat provides horizontal, vertical and vertical tilt adjustments.

Rack and pinion drive system consists of a reversible 3 armature motor, a switch and housing, vertical drive gears and horizontal rack and pinion. On screw-type drive, system consists of a reversible armature motor, switch and housing assembly, vertical and horizontal screw drives. Electrical circuit is protected by a 20-amp circuit breaker located in fuse block or on starter motor.

Horizontal and vertical drive units are serviced separately, but motor is serviced as an assembly. Flexible shafts are serviced individually. Continental and Mark VII models also may use a power recliner which provides tilt adjustment of the seat back only.
