Section 1 (Anti-Lock Brake System): Description

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 12 other vehicles, including the 1993 Mercury Grand Marquis, 1993 Lincoln Town Car, 1993 Ford Crown Victoria, 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis, and 1992 Lincoln Town Car. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) allows the driver to stop in the shortest distance while maintaining steering control. System consists of a master cylinder/booster assembly, Electronic Control Unit (ECU), Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU), electric pump/motor, pedal travel switch, 4 wheel sensors, and 2 warning lights (ANTI-LOCK and BRAKE).

Some vehicles are equipped with optional Traction Assist (TA). Traction assist works with the ABS to control rear wheel spin when accelerating on slippery or loose surfaces.

NOTE: For more information on brake system, see BRAKE SYSTEM article in the BRAKES Section.
