Seats - Power: Operation

The rack and pinion drive system consists of a reversible 3-armature motor (Trimotor), switch and housing, vertical drive gears and horizontal rack and pinion drives.

The pinion housing and motor is attached to the movable section of the track and is responsible for horizontal movement. Vertical movement is controlled by a worm and sector gear arrangement. Drive units are located at the front and rear of the seat. The tilt function is controlled by actuating either the front or rear sector gear. Motor and housing are serviced as a complete assembly. Other components can be serviced individually.

Optional memory seat permits choice of 3 seat positions to be stored in control module memory. To program position, press SET button. LED will glow. Before LED goes out (5 seconds), press button No. 1. To set position No. 2, repeat procedure, but press button No. 2. To set position No. 3, repeat procedure, but press buttons No. 1 and 2 simultaneously. To recall any position, press corresponding button or buttons to activate module memory. Recall can be activated only when gear selector is in "P" or "N" position. Memory can be programmed at any time.

Auto-glide feature automatically moves seat forward or backward when the seatback is moved forward or backward. This feature allows easy access to rear seat. With ignition switch in OFF position, auto-glide feature will operate with gear selector in "P" or "N" position, seat unoccupied and at least one door open. With ignition switch in ON position, auto-glide feature will operate with gear selector in "P" or "N" position and seat unoccupied.

On models equipped with power lumbar support, a separate switch controls a motor/pump assembly which inflates or deflates an air bladder as desired. Optional power seatback recline function is controlled by a separate switch.

Seat function switches are mounted in driver's armrest, in door trim panel or on side of seat trim panel. Power seat circuit is protected by circuit breakers mounted in each motor armature.
