Retrieving Diagnostic Trouble Codes

  1. Hook-up New Generation Star (NGS) scan tester. See TEST EQUIPMENT HOOK-UP . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Rotate dial (on scan tester) to menu item DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK, and press trigger to select.
  2. Advance to next screen and select DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODES. Advance to next screen and select RETRIEVE/CLEAR CONTINUOUS DTC. Advance to next screen and press start (button 3).
  3. At this screen, any DTCs will be displayed. Record DTCs. To clear individual codes, rotate knob to highlight DTC then press Button 8. To clear all codes from selected module, press Button 7.
  4. To determine if fault(s) are continuous (hard faults) or intermittent, clear codes. Recheck for DTCs. If codes reappear shortly after clearing all codes, code is considered continuous (hard fault). If fault is intermittent, attempt to re-create condition that caused code to set (operate switches, wiggle wiring, etc.).
NOTE: Control module references apply to the Vehicle Dynamics Module.
