Pinpoint Test D - Auto-Dimming Function Inoperative

  1. Electronic Mirror Fuse Check: Check fuse No. 9 (10-amp) in instrument panel fuse block. Replace fuse if blown, and go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step 3).
  2. Electronic Rear View Mirror Operation Check: Place shift lever in Park. Turn ignition on. Set dimming control to HI position. If both inside and left mirrors darken, system is functioning properly. Test is complete. If either or both mirrors do not darken, go to step 4).
  3. Electronic Side Mirror Operation Check: Place shift lever in Park. Turn ignition on. Place side mirror control in HI position. If inside mirror darkens but side mirrors do not, go to step 8). If rear view mirror and side mirrors darken, system is functioning properly. Test is complete.
  4. Battery Voltage Check: Unplug 7-pin connector from back of rear view mirror. Check voltage at Red/Yellow wire of connector. If battery voltage is indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is not indicated, repair open Red/Yellow wire.
  5. Ground Check: Check continuity between inside mirror 7-pin connector Black wire and ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open Black wire.
  6. Battery Voltage Check: Check voltage on Black/Pink wire at inside mirror connector. If battery voltage is indicated, check Transmission Range (TR) sensor. If TR sensor is okay, repair short to battery voltage in Black/Pink wire. If battery voltage is not indicated, replace rear view mirror assembly and go to next step.
  7. Inside Mirror Operation Check: Reconnect inside mirror harness connector. If inside mirror operates properly, go to next step. If mirror does not operate properly, replace mirror assembly.
  8. Side Mirror Operation Check: Disconnect inside mirror harness connector. Using a "D" size flashlight battery (1.5 volts), connect positive terminal to Purple wire of 7-pin connector. Connect negative terminal to Light Blue/White wire of 7-pin connector. If side mirror dims, replace inside mirror. If side mirror does not dim, go to next step.
  9. Continuity Check: Remove side mirror glass. See SIDE MIRROR GLASS & MOTOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect 7-pin connector. Check continuity of Purple wire between rear view mirror 7-pin connector and side view mirror 7-pin connector. If continuity exits, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open Purple wire.
  10. Check continuity of Light Blue/White wire between connectors. If continuity exists, replace side mirror glass. If continuity does not exist, repair open Light Blue/White wire.
