Inspection & Verification

  1. Verify customer concern by operating vehicle and applying brakes under different conditions to attempt to duplicate the problem. Inspect the following first to eliminate any mechanical or electrical problem first:
    • Parking Brake Cable
    • Improperly Inflated Tires
    • Mismatched Wheels Or Tires
    • ABS Fuse (50-Amp) in Power Distribution Box
    • Fuse No. 15 (10-Amp) in Fuse Junction Panel
    • Damaged Or Disconnected Connectors
  2. If fault is not visually evident, connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester (007-00500) to Data Link Connector (DLC) beneath instrument panel. Select vehicle to be tested from NGS menu. If there is no communications with vehicle, check for proper program card and installation, connection to DLC and ignition switch in proper position.
  3. If NGS still does not communicate with vehicle, refer to tester manual.
  4. If communications exists, perform DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST on NGS menu. If NGS responds with CKT914, CKT915, or CKT70=ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, see appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If NGS responds with NO RESP/NOT EQUIP FOR ABCM, go to TEST A  . If NGS responds with SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and perform self-test diagnostics for ABCM.
  5. If retrieved DTCs are related to ABS concern, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX  . If no DTCs are related to the concern, go to symptom chart. See Fig 1 .

(1) If DTCs not listed in table are present, check Powertrain Control Module (PCM) for stored codes and service as necessary.
(2) Replace ABCM.
(3) Carry out PCM Self-Test.
(4) Carry out Hybrid Electronic Cluster (HEC) Self-Test. It may also be necessary to test EATC, air suspension, speed control and other speed-reactive systems.
(5) Carry out Hybrid Electronic Cluster (HEC) Self-Test.
