Self-Diagnostic System

WARNING: Vehicle may be equipped with side air bags. Before testing or repairing components around driver's and passenger's seats, disable side air bags. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
NOTE: Before beginning any testing, perform TROUBLE SHOOTING  .
NOTE: Test procedures are written specifically for New Generation Star (NGS) tester. Generic scan tools may not have the capability of performing all the same functions. Refer to scan tool manufacturer's instructions.

Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Perform data link diagnostic test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - TOWN CAR article. If NGS tester responds with CKT 914 or CKT 915=ALL MODULES NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED, diagnose network concern. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - TOWN CAR article. If NGS tester responds with NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for Driver's Seat Module (DSM) or exits self-test and returns to normal operating state, perform TEST B: NO COMMUNICATION WITH DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE  under SYSTEM TESTS. If NGS tester responds with NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for Driver's Door Module (DDM) or exits self-test and returns to normal operating state, perform TEST A: NO COMMUNICATION WITH DRIVER'S DOOR MODULE  under SYSTEM TESTS.

If NGS tester responds with SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record continuous DTCs. Erase continuous DTCs. Using NGS tester, perform DDM and DSM self-test. Perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE DTC INDEX  and/or DRIVER'S DOOR MODULE DTC INDEX  table. Codes listed in these tables are only for testing covered in this article. For complete DTC listing, see MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - TOWN CAR article. If no DTCs are retrieved, repair by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS.

(2) Using NGS tester, retrieve and document all continuous. Perform Driver's Seat Module (DSM) self-test. If DTC B1342 is retrieved again, replace DSM.
