Test J: Easy Entry/Exit Feature Inoperative
WARNING:
Vehicle may be equipped with side air bags and seat belt pretensioners. Before testing or repairing power seat system, disable restraint system. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. For any diagnostic or service to power seats equipped with side air bags, use Air Bag Simulators (418-133). Air bag simulators must be installed to air bag floor harness connectors, and removed prior to operating vehicle. For any diagnostic or service to power seats equipped with seat belt pretensioners, use Pretensioners Simulators (418-F088). Pretensioners simulators must be installed to pretensioners floor harness connector, and removed prior to operating vehicle.
NOTE:
After any repairs are complete, ensure all component are properly installed and all harness connectors are connected properly, then repeat data link diagnostic test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS in appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - TOWN CAR article.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Operate driver's seat in all directions. If seat operates properly in all directions, go to next step. If seat does not operate properly, repair by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX table.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Position seat in center of travel. Remove key from ignition. If seat does not move rearward approximately 2 inches, go to next step. If seat moves rearward approximately 2 inches, go to step 5 .
- Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, access Lighting Control Module (LCM) PIP IGN_KEY and IGN_LC. Turn ignition switch to one position at a time, while monitoring LCM PID IGN_LC. Remove key while monitoring LCM PID IGN_KEY. If scan tool display corresponds with switch position, go to next step. If scan tool display does not correspond to switch position, repair ignition switch concern. See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - TOWN CAR article.
- Using NGS tester, perform Driver's Seat Module (DSM) self-test. If no DTCs are retrieved, replace DSM. If DTC B1665 is retrieved, perform TEST C: DRIVER'S SEAT COMPLETELY INOPERATIVE (WITH MEMORY) . If DTCs B1962 and B1965 are retrieved, perform TEST I: MEMORY SEAT INOPERATIVE . If any other DTCs are retrieved, perform appropriate test. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no DTCs were retrieved, replace DSM.
- Remove key from ignition switch and exit vehicle. Ensure all doors are closed completely. After 10 seconds, enter vehicle and close door. If driver's seat does not move forward approximately 2 inches, go to next step. If driver's seat moves forward approximately 2 inches, system is okay at this time.
- Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, retrieve and record Lighting Control Modules (LCM) DTCs. Clear LCM DTCs, and perform LCM self-test. If no LCM DTCs exist, go to next step. If any LCM DTCs exist, repair as necessary. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - TOWN CAR article.
- Using NGS tester, retrieve and record Driver's Seat Module (DSM) DTCs. If DSM DTCs exist, perform appropriate test. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no DSM DTCs exist, replace DSM.
