Section 1532 (Engine): Installation: Engine: Installation

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
  2. Using the special tool, install the engine assembly in the vehicle.

  3. NOTE: When the vehicle is raised, verify that the torque converter is correctly seated.

  4. Install the four bolts and one stud.
  5. Install the bolts.

  6. Attach the wiring harness to the retainers on the transmission.
  7. Connect the OSS sensor, TR sensor and the TSS sensor electrical connectors.

  8. Connect the heated oxygen (HO2S) sensor and the solenoid body sensor electrical connectors.

  9. Raise the transmission and install the transmission insulator.
  10. Install the insulator nuts.

  11. Install the insulator bolts.

  12. Using the special tool, install the LH HO2S.

  13. Connect the LH HO2S electrical connector.

  14. Connect the RH HO2S electrical connector.
  15. Install the four torque converter nuts.
    • Rotate the crankshaft to access the nuts.

  16. Install the rubber access plug.

  17. Install the inspection cover and the bolts.

  18. Install the starter motor and the bolts.

  19. Connect the starter electrical connections and install the nuts.
    • Install the solenoid terminal cover.

  20. Position the exhaust, install the four nuts and remove the support.

  21. Install the power steering pump and the bolts.

  22. Install the A/C compressor and the bolts.

  23. Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.

  24. Connect the engine wiring harness retainers to the A/C compressor.

  25. Connect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.

  26. Position the transmission oil cooler tubes and install the bolt.

  27. Install the transmission cooler tube support bracket and the nut.

  28. Install the power steering tube bracket and the nut.

  29. Connect the power steering pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector.

  32. Install the cooling fan. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  33. NOTE: Do not reuse hose clamps. Use appropriately sized worm-style clamps in place of the constant tension clamps.

  34. Connect the lower radiator hose.
  35. Connect the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing.

  36. Connect the engine bulkhead connectors.

  37. Position the ground strap and install the bolt.

  39. Connect the heater hoses.
  40. Connect the A/C low charge protection switch electrical connector.

  43. Connect the fuel tube spring lock coupling. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  44. Connect the two hoses and the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge valve electrical connector.

  45. Connect the vacuum hose.

  46. Install the air cleaner and outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING .
  47. Install the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE .
  48. Install the LH cowl extension and connect the electrical connector.

  49. Install the RH cowl extension.
    1. Install the extension.
    2. Install the pin-type retainers.
    3. Install the nuts and bolts.

  50. Install the support bracket.

  51. Install the wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft. For additional information, refer to WIPERS AND WASHERS .
  52. Fill the crankcase with clean engine oil.
  53. Connect both battery cables. For additional information, refer to CHARGING SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION .
  54. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  55. Install the hood.
