WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lincoln Town Car. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
Foreign objects between side air bag module and seat components may be projected toward occupants during air bag deployment. Personal injury may result. Ensure side air bag module, air bag mounting surfaces, deployment chute and seat back pad are free of foreign objects.
Unzipped, damaged or altered deployment chute may cause side air bag to deploy improperly. Personal injury may result. If deployment chute is damaged or altered, seat back trim cover and deployment chute must be installed new, as a unit. Do not attempt to repair deployment chute.
If air bag cover has separated or air bag material has been exposed, air bag may deploy improperly. Personal injury may result. If air bag cover has separated or air bag material has been exposed, install new air bag module. Do not attempt to repair air bag module.

Tighten mounting nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Pull seat back pad and trim cover over seat back frame.
- Insert outboard side of air bag deployment chute between seat back pad and side air bag module, pulling it around outboard side of seat back frame. Insert inboard side of deployment chute between seat back pad and side air bag module from inboard side of seat back.
- Zip deployment chute completely closed. Position zipper tail, located at top of deployment chute, into seat back opening. Ensure deployment chute encircles side air bag module, going around air bag module and side of seat back frame. Align deployment chute, making sure it covers the length of air bag module, but does not cover top or bottom of air bag module.
- To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . With air bag simulators installed at all deployable devices, perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
