Removal and Installation

WARNING: Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and can be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.
WARNING: Fuel in the system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before servicing or disconnecting any of the fuel lines or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved to prevent accidental spraying of fuel, causing personal injury or a fire hazard.
  1. Remove the fuel tank. For additional information, refer to FUEL TANK .
  2. Disconnect the quick release fittings from the fuel pump. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .

  3. Using the special tool, remove the fuel pump lock ring.

  4. CAUTION: Carefully remove the fuel pump assembly to avoid damaging the fuel level sensor.
  5. Remove the fuel pump assembly.
  6. CAUTION: Note the location of the fuel pump alignment tabs.

  7. Remove the O-ring.
  8. Remove the fuel level sensor. For additional information, refer to FUEL LEVEL SENSOR .
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
