Removal and Installation
WARNING:
Brake fluid contains polyglycol ethers and polyglycols. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. If brake fluid contacts eyes, flush eyes with running water for 15 minutes. Get medical attention if irritation persists. If taken internally, drink water and induce vomiting. Get medical attention immediately. Failure to follow these instruction may result in personal injury.
CAUTION:
Brake fluid is harmful to painted and plastic surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash it with water.
NOTE:
The 4-channel anti-lock brake system (ABS) with stability assist shown, 3-channel ABS is similar.
- Remove the battery tray. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Disconnect the ABS electrical connector.
- Remove the 2 brake line-to-HCU nuts and position the brake lines aside.
- To install, tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).
- Remove the 4 brake line-to-brake line nuts.
- To install, tighten to 18 Nm (13 lb-ft).
- Remove the 3 HCU bracket-to-frame nuts.
- To install, tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).
- Remove the HCU assembly.
- Remove the 4 brake line-to-HCU nuts.
- To install, tighten to 18 Nm (13 lb-ft).
- Remove the 2 bracket-to-brake line holder nuts and the brake line holder assembly.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
- Remove the bracket-to-HCU bolts and the HCU bracket.
- To install, tighten to 17 Nm (13 lb-ft).
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Bleed the brake system. For additional information, refer to BRAKE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
NOTE:
The brake lines must be installed in the same location as removed.
