Pinpoint Test J: Lost Communication With Abs (Anti-Lock Brake System) Control Module

  1. J1 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK 
    • Ignition ON.
    • Using the diagnostic scan tool, perform the network test.

    Does the ABS module pass the network test? 

    1. Yes  : For GSM, GO to J2 

      For TRCM, GO to  J4

    2. No  : GO to  J6
  2. J2 CHECK FOR GSM (GEARSHIFT MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) 
    • Clear all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
    • Using the diagnostic scan tool, perform the GSM self-test.

    Is DTC U0121 present? 

    1. Yes  : GO to J3 
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
  3. J3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE GSM (GEARSHIFT MODULE) SELF-TEST 
    • Check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the self-test.

    Are any GSM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present? 

    1. Yes  : REFER to the GSM DTC CHART  and diagnosis those Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) first.
    2. No  : GO to  J6
  4. J4 CHECK FOR TRCM (TRANSMISSION RANGE CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) 
    • Clear all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
    • Using the diagnostic scan tool, perform the TRCM self-test.

    Is DTC U0121 present? 

    1. Yes  : GO to J5 
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
  5. J5 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE TRCM (TRANSMISSION RANGE CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST 
    • Check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the self-test.

    Are any TRCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present? 

    1. Yes  : REFER to the TRCM DTC CHART  and diagnosis those Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) first.
    2. No  : GO to J6 
  6. J6 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) SELF-TEST 
    • Check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the self-test.

    Is DTC U3000:49 present? 

    1. Yes  : REFER to: ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) AND STABILITY CONTROL - VEHICLES BUILT UP TO: 03-JUNE-2013 .

      or REFER to: ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) AND STABILITY CONTROL - VEHICLES BUILT FROM: 20-MAY-2013 .

    2. No  : GO to J7 
  7. J7 CHECK FOR DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) U0121 SET IN OTHER MODULES 
    • Using the diagnostic scan tool, perform the self-test for all modules.
    • Retrieve the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from all modules.

    Is DTC U0121 present in the ABS or IPC modules? 

    1. Yes  : CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, discontinue this test and follow TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new ABS module.

      REFER to: HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) .

    2. No  : If the reporting module is the GSM, INSTALL a new GSM.

      REFER to: GEARSHIFT MODULE (GSM)  .

      If the reporting module is the TRCM, INSTALL a new TRCM.

      REFER to: TRANSMISSION RANGE CONTROL MODULE (TRCM)  .
