Steering Gear: Installation

  1. Install the steering gear, position the front stabilizer bar and install the new steering gear bolts finger tight.

  2. Check and install the steering gear boot on steering gear as shown.

  3. With all 3 bolts finger tightened, complete all 4 stages of the tightening sequence first on bolt 1, then bolt 2 then bolt 3 as shown below.

    1. Tighten the steering gear bolt.

      Torque: Stage 1: 81 lb.ft (110 Nm) Stage 2: Loosen: 360 deg. Stage 3: 41 lb.ft (56 Nm) Stage 4: 180 deg.

    2. Tighten the steering gear bolt.

      Torque: Stage 1: 81 lb.ft (110 Nm) Stage 2: Loosen: 360 deg. Stage 3: 41 lb.ft (56 Nm) Stage 4: 180 deg.

    3. Tighten the steering gear bolt.

      Torque: Stage 1: 81 lb.ft (110 Nm) Stage 2: Loosen: 360 deg. Stage 3: 41 lb.ft (56 Nm) Stage 4: 180 deg.

  4. Install the front subframe. Refer to: Front Subframe .
  5. If a new steering gear was installed, download the PSCM configuration from the scan tool to the new PSCM. Refer to: Module Configuration - System Operation and Component Description .
