Steering Column - Remove for Access

- Depower the SRS. Refer to: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering .
- Fully extend and lower the steering column.
- Release the tabs and position the gap hider aside. Use the General Equipment: Interior Trim Remover
- Release the clips and remove the steering column opening trim panel.
- Remove the bolts and the steering column reinforcement panel.
- Remove the lower steering column shroud bolts.
- Remove the lower steering column shroud.

NOTE: Vehicle equipped with power adjustable steering column shown below, others similar.
Disconnect the steering column harness electrical connectors, detach the clips and position the steering column harness aside.

WARNING: Do not reuse steering column shaft bolts. This may result in fastener failure and steering column shaft detachment or loss of steering control. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious injury to vehicle occupant(s).NOTE: Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate while the steering column shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring may result.
Disconnect the steering column upper shaft from the steering column.
- Remove and discard the steering column shaft bolt.
- Disconnect the steering column upper shaft from the steering column.

WARNING: Do not reuse steering column nuts. This may result in fastener failure and steering column detachment or loss of steering control. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious injury to vehicle occupant(s).
Remove and discard the retainers and remove the steering column.
