1975-80 (Ported EGR Valve)

  1. Check vacuum hose for correct routing. Disconnect vacuum hose from base of carburetor. Connect a hand-held vacuum pump to hose. With engine at idle speed, apply vacuum to EGR valve. If vacuum holds and idle becomes unstable or engine stalls, EGR valve is functioning properly.
  2. With engine at normal operating temperature, connect a vacuum gauge to EGR hose. Increase engine speed to about 2500 RPM. If vacuum is shown on gauge, system is functioning properly.
