Engine Controls - Pin Voltage Charts: Introduction

NOTE: Unless otherwise specified, references to "F" Series includes "F" Series Super Duty.
NOTE: Unless otherwise specified, references to Explorer includes Navajo.

Pin voltage charts are supplied (where available) to speed up the diagnostic process. By checking pin voltages at the Electronic Control Assembly (ECA), it is possible to determine if the control unit is receiving and transmitting proper voltage signals. Charts may also help determine if control unit harness has shorts or opens. Diagnostic values are based on engine at normal operating temperature. Key On Engine Off (KOEO) and Hot Idle tests are recorded with transmission selector lever in Park (A/T) or Neutral (M/T) position. Vehicles with manual transmission use 3rd gear for 30 MPH values and 4th gear for 55 MPH.

Reference values may differ due to component tolerances, driving conditions and weather. The ACT and ECT values may values may vary greatly with temperature. The values given were recorded at approximately 600 feet above sea level at 50 - 70° (15°).

NOTE: Unless stated otherwise in testing procedures, perform all voltage tests using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance. Voltage readings may vary slightly due to battery condition or charging rate.
