Retrieving Trouble Codes
- Turn ignition off. Check connector is located at ABS control unit, under driver's seat. Remove driver's seat. See Figure . Using a jumper wire, connect Green/Black wire and Black wire of check connector. Turn ignition on. Observe ABS warning light.
- If ABS warning light illuminates briefly and then goes out, ABS system is functioning properly. Turn ignition off and disconnect jumper wire from check connector.
- If ABS warning light flashes, this indicates a past failure. Record all codes. See Fig 1 . Refer to SYSTEM TESTING under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING for specific procedures. After repairs, erase all trouble codes. See ERASING TROUBLE CODES under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
- If ABS warning light illuminates constantly, this indicates a present failure. Using an analog voltmeter, connect positive voltmeter lead to check connector Green/Red wire and negative voltmeter lead to ground.
- Voltmeter needle will fluctuate between zero and 12 volts. Observe ABS warning light illumination and sweeps of voltmeter needle. Record all codes. See Fig 1 . Refer to SYSTEM TESTING under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING for specific procedures. After repairs are made, erase all trouble codes. See ERASING TROUBLE CODES under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
- If voltmeter does not pulse, no trouble codes are present. Start engine and let idle. Using voltmeter, check voltage at alternator terminals "B", "L" and "S". See Figure
. Voltmeter should indicate battery voltage. If voltmeter reads battery voltage, go to next step. If voltmeter does not indicate battery voltage, repair alternator.NOTE: If battery voltage is low, ABS warning light may illuminate.
- Start engine. Check voltage at battery and ABS control unit terminal 1H (Black/Green wire). If battery voltage is less than 10 volts, charge or replace battery.
- If battery voltage is greater than 10 volts and voltage at ABS control unit terminal 1H (Black/Green wire) is less than 10 volts, check wiring harness between battery and ABS control unit terminal 1H (Black/Green wire). Repair as necessary. If wiring harness is okay, go to next step.
- Check ABS warning light. See ABS WARNING LIGHT under COMPONENT TESTING. Repair as necessary. If ABS warning light is okay, check fail-safe relay. Fail-safe relay is located in relay box. See RELAY BOX (FAIL-SAFE RELAY RESISTANCE TEST) under COMPONENT TESTING. Repair as necessary. If fail-safe relay is okay, check voltage at ABS control unit terminals. See Figure .
