Wiper/Washer Systems: Description

CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See 1983-98 COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.

Front system uses a standard 2-speed wiper motor for LO and HI speed wiper operation and rear system uses a single speed wiper motor. Some systems may be equipped with an adjustable intermittent function that can delay wiper action between cycles. Front wiper and washer functions are controlled by steering column-mounted wiper/washer switch that is part of the combination switch. Wiper motor is protected by an internal circuit breaker. When wiper/washer switch is turned off, internal wiper motor auto-stop switch will operate wipers until reaching AUTO-STOP position.

Some models are equipped with a rear wiper/washer system. Wiper and washer controls for rear wiper/washer system are mounted on the steering column-mounted wiper/washer switch that is part of the combination switch.
