Load Test
- Ensure battery is fully charged. Connect voltmeter/ammeter tester. Turn carbon pile rheostat fully counterclockwise to ensure no current is flowing through ammeter and carbon pile. Locate starter relay on interior fender near battery. Disconnect starter relay terminal "S" harness connector (small wire). Connect remote starter switch between starter relay terminal "S" and battery positive terminal.
- Turn ignition off. Place transmission in Park or Neutral (A/T) or depress clutch pedal (M/T). While cranking engine with remote starter switch, note voltmeter reading. If cranking voltage is greater than 9.6 volts, go to next step. If cranking voltage is 9.6 volts or less, charge battery and retest.
- Turn carbon pile rheostat clockwise until voltage reading is same as noted in previous step. Note current draw (amperage) reading. Compare current draw to specification. See STARTER SPECIFICATIONS TABLE . If current draw exceeds specification, repair or replace starter.
