Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor

  1. Disconnect ECT sensor connector. Check for damaged or pushed out pins, corrosion and loose wires. Repair as necessary. Reconnect connector. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) Tool (49 T088 0A0) to data link connector 2 located under left side of dash. Turn ignition on. Using NSG tool, access ECT PID and record value. See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR VOLTAGE/RESISTANCE TABLE  .
  2. If ECT PID value is not as specified, remove ECT sensor. Place ECT sensor in a container of water with a thermometer and gradually heat water. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between ECT sensor terminals. See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR VOLTAGE/RESISTANCE  table. If resistance is not as specified, replace ECT sensor.
