Component Testing: Relays
NOTE:
The following test procedure may be used for all wiper/washer system relays.
- Remove relay. Using DVOM, measure resistance between terminal No. 85 and all other terminals. SeeFig 1 . If resistance is 5 ohms or less between terminal No. 85 and any other terminal, replace relay. If resistance is more than 5 ohms between terminal No. 85 and all other terminals, go to next step.
- Using 2 jumper wires, connect terminal No. 30 and terminal No. 86 to positive battery terminal. SeeFig 1 . Connect DVOM negative lead to battery negative terminal. Using DVOM positive lead, measure voltage at terminal No. 87A. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, replace relay.
- Using a third jumper wire, connect terminal No. 85 to negative battery terminal. SeeFig 1 . Using DVOM, measure voltage at terminal No. 87. If battery voltage is not present, replace relay. If battery voltage is present, relay is good.
