Section 11 (Engine Controls - Pin Voltage/PID Value Charts - 2.3L): Introduction

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Mazda Millenia. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Millenia 2.3L uses a Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Pin voltage charts are supplied to reduce diagnostic time. Checking Engine Control Module (ECM) or Powertrain Control Module (PCM) input and output signals determine if ECM/PCM is receiving and transmitting proper voltage signals. Charts may also help determine if ECM/PCM wiring harness has an open or short circuit.

Parameter Identification (PID) values also check input and output signals to determine if ECM/PCM is receiving and transmitting proper signals. PID values are retrieved using New Generation Star (NGS) or OBD-II compliant scan tool. See PID VALUE TESTING under TEST PROCEDURES .

Before performing tests, ensure mechanical conditions have been inspected and self-diagnostics has been attempted. Service bulletins may also be helpful in correcting a hard to diagnose problem.
