Front Seat Belt Removal/Installation

WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.
CAUTION:
  • The Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) has a spring that will unwind if the retractor's cover is removed. The spring cannot be rewound by hand. If this occurs, the ELR will not work properly. Therefore, do not disassemble the retractor.
NOTE:
  • The side air bag sensor is located in the B-pillar.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK position.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for more than 1 minute. 
  3. Remove the B-pillar lower trim.
  4. Remove in the order indicated in the illustration.

  5. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  6. Verify that the air bag system warning light illuminates for approximately 6 seconds  and then goes off.
    • If the air bag system warning light does not operate in the manner described above, there are malfunction in the system. Inspect the system using the on-board diagnostic function.
