Diagnostic Procedures

  1. If QUICK TEST was not performed, go to QUICK TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If QUICK TEST was performed, go to next step.
  2. NOTE: During KOEO Self-Test, clutch pedal must be depressed for M/T or gear shift must be in Neutral for A/T.
  3. Check CPP/PNP Switch Function -  With KOEO, access CPP/PNP PID and observe PID cycling on/off with clutch pedal up, then depressed (M/T). If CPP/PNP PID changes from on to off, fault is intermittent. Disconnect PCM 104-pin harness connector. Inspect connector for damaged or pushed out pins, corrosion or loose wires. Repair as necessary. If connector is okay, replace faulty PCM. After repair, go to step  6 . If CPP/PNP PID did not change from on to off, go to next step.
  4. Check CPP Switch -  Turn ignition off. Locate CPP switch near clutch pedal. Inspect switch for and bracket for damage. Repair as necessary. Disconnect CPP switch 6-pin harness connector. Inspect for damage. Repair as necessary. Measure resistance across CPP switch terminals with clutch pedal depressed. See Fig 1 . If resistance reading is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance reading is 5 ohms or more, replace CPP switch. After repair, go to step  6 .

  5. Check Resistance Of CPP Circuit -  Disconnect scan tool from DLC. Disconnect PCM 104-pin harness connector. Connect Breakout Box (49-UN01-130) to PCM harness connector only. See Figure . Measure resistance of CPP circuit (Light Blue/Yellow wire) between breakout box terminal No. 64 and CPP switch 6-pin harness connector. See Fig 1 . Record reading. Measure resistance of SIG RTN circuit (Gray/Red wire) between breakout box terminal No. 91 and CPP switch 6-pin harness connector. See Fig 1 . Record reading. If either resistance reading is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If either resistance reading is 5 ohms or more, repair appropriate open circuit. See appropriate WIRING DIAGRAM under ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS. After repair, go to step  6 .
  6. Check CPP Circuit For Short -  Measure resistance between breakout box terminals No. 64 (CPP circuit) and No. 91 (SIG RTN circuit). Record reading. Measure resistance between breakout box terminals No. 64 (CPP circuit) and chassis ground. Record reading. If each resistance reading is more than 10,000 ohms, replace faulty PCM. Remove breakout box. Reconnect all connectors. After repair, go to next step. If each resistance reading is 10,000 ohms or less, repair short circuit. After repair, go to next step.
  7. Verify Trouble Shooting Of DTCs Completed -  Reconnect all electrical connectors. Clear DTC from PCM memory. Perform QUICK TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If same DTC is present, replace faulty PCM. Repeat QUICK TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any other DTC is present, go to applicable procedure for other DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  . If no DTC is present, trouble shooting is complete.
