Removal & Installation: Engine: Removal

CAUTION:
Fuel system is under pressure. Release fuel pressure before servicing any fuel system components. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE .
- Disconnect negative battery cable.
- Drain cooling system.
- Drain transaxle fluid.
- Disconnect P/S pump pipes, and drain reservoir.
- Remove the splash shield (RH).
- Remove the joint shaft (RH).
- Disconnect the driveshaft (LH) from the transaxle.
- Remove battery and battery tray.
- Remove air cleaner, intake air duct, acclerator cable and bracket, and vacuum hose.
- Remove transmission filler tube and selector cable (A/T).
- Remove cruise control actuator.
- Remove radiator.
- Fuel vapor is hazardous. It can easily ignite, causing serious injury and damage. Always keep sparks and flames away from fuel.
- Fuel line spills and leakage are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injuries or death and damage. Fuel can also irritate skin and eyes.
- Using Special Tool (49UN01052) for 3/8" hose or (49UN01052) for 1/2" hose, disconnect plastic fuel hose quick release connector. See Figure.
- Disconnect PCM wiring harness at PCM.
- Pull harness through dash lower panel into engine compartment.
- Remove front exhaust pipe.
- Remove drive belt.
- Remove A/C compressor with hoses attached, and secure components aside.
- Remove generator and bracket.
- Remove No. 2 engine mount nut.
- Remove engine mount member.
- Remove No. 1 engine mount through-bolt.
- Remove No. 1 engine joint bracket
- Remove No. 3 engine joint bracket.
- Remove No. 3 engine mount rubber.
- Remove No. 4 engine mount through-bolt.
- Remove No. 4 engine joint bracket.
- Remove No. 4 engine mount rubber.
- Remove engine and transaxle from vehicle.

NOTE:
DO NOT disconnect engine side of harness.
NOTE:
To identify engine mounts, see Figure.
NOTE:
Suspend the engine using SST 49 G017 5A0 and SST 49 L017 5A0.
NOTE:
Remove the through-bolt which mounts the No. 1 engine mount rubber and joint bracket. DO NOT remove the No. 1 engine mount rubber from the vehicle. Ensure transaxle is supported.
NOTE:
When installing the No. 4 engine joint bracket, tighten the nut on the center of the joint backet first, then tighten both side nuts.
NOTE:
Loosen the No. 4 mount rubber installation bolt, DO NOT remove the mount from the vehicle. Remove the through-bolt which mounts the mount rubber and joint bracket.
