Transfer Case Fluid

CAUTION:
  • Incorrect fluid fill can result in transfer case failure.
NOTE:
  • Fluid level should be just below the filler plug.
  1. Remove the drain plug and drain the fluid.

    • Clean and install the drain plug after fluid is drained.
    NOTE:
    • Clean the area around the fill plug.
  2. Remove the fill plug and fill the transfer case.

    Specified Oil 

    ATF TYPE M-lll or equivalent (e.g. MERCON) 

    CAUTION:
    • The fluid level must be just below the fill plug hole. Because you and reach the fluid with a finger does not mean the fluid is at the correct level. Make sure the fluid level is level with the filler opening for the correct fluid level.
  3. Check the fluid level.

    1. The total transfer case fill capacity is 1.2 liter (2.5 pints).
  4. Install fill plug.
