Assembly Note

  1. Install the differential bearings.
    1. Position the appropriate differential bearing (RH or LH).
    2. Use the appropriate press to install the differential bearing.
    • Repeat for the other differential bearing.

  2. Position the differential side gear thrust washers on the differential side gears.
    • Use axle lubricant meeting specification API Service GL-5 to lubricate the differential side gear thrust washers and the differential side gear journals.
  3. Position the differential side gears.

  4. Use axle lubricant meeting specification API Service GL-5 to lubricate the differential pinion thrust washers and the differential pinion gears and assemble.
  5. Engage the differential pinion gears between the differential side gears.

  6. Rotate the differential pinon gears to align the differential pinion shaft bore.
  7. Insert the differential pinion shaft.

  8. Install the differential pinion shaft roll pin.

  9. Install the ring gear.
    1. Position the ring gear and then start two or three ring gear bolts to align the holes in the ring gear and the differential case.
    • Use an appropriate press to install the ring gear.

  10. Install the remaining ring gear bolts.

  11. Install the differential case into the front drive axle housing; See AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL FRONT DISASSEMBLY / ASSEMBLY
