Disassembly Note

  1. Remove differential case from the front drive axle housing; See AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL FRONT DISASSEMBLY / ASSEMBLY  .
  2. Remove the ring gear.
    1. Remove the eight bolts.
    2. Use a drift that will bottom out in the ring gear bolt holes to separate the ring gear from the differential case.

  3. Drive out the differential pinion shaft roll pin from the differential case.

  4. Remove the differential pinion shaft.

    NOTE:
    • Differential side gears may fall out after removing the differential pinion gears.
  5. Rotate the differential pinion gears to the differential case window and remove them and the differential pinon thrust washers.

  6. Remove the differential side gears and the differential side gear thrust washers.

  7. Assemble Pinion and Carrier Bearing Puller ST  49 UN01 029.

  8. Position Pinion and Carrier Bearing Puller ST  49 UN01 029.

    NOTE:
    • The differential bearings must be installed on the same side they were removed from.
  9. Use Pinion and Carrier Bearing Puller ST  49 UN01 029 to remove the differential bearing.
    • Repeat the procedure for the other side.
