WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 Mazda 6. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Discharge the refrigerant. See. REFRIGERANT CHARGING .
- Discharge the engine coolant See. REFRIGERANT CHARGING .
- Disconnect the cooler hose LO and cooler hose HI. See. REFRIGERANT LINE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .
- Remove the following parts.
- Plug hole plate. See PLUG HOLE PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5] .
- Engine cover
- Air cleaner, air hose and fresh air duct component. See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5] . See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7] .
- Throttle body with the water hoses still connected. Position the throttle body so that it is out of the way. See. INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5] . See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7] .
- Coolant reserve tank. See. COOLANT RESERVE TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7] . See COOLANT RESERVE TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5] .
- Cooling fan component. See. COOLING FAN COMPONENT INSPECTION [MZI-3.7] . See COOLING FAN COMPONENT INSPECTION [L5] .
- Disconnect the ATF oil cooler hose from the radiator (ATX). See. OIL COOLER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [FS5A-EL] . See. OIL COOLER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AW6A-EL] .

- Remove the condenser from the radiator Do not allow remaining compressor oil in the refrigerant line to spill.CAUTION:
- If moisture or foreign material enters the refrigeration cycle, cooling ability will be lowered and abnormal noise or other malfunction could occur. Always plug open fittings immediately after removing any refrigeration cycle parts.
- Install in the reverse order of removal
- Inspect for engine coolant leakage. See. ENGINE COOLANT LEAKAGE INSPECTION [L5] . See. ENGINE COOLANT LEAKAGE INSPECTION [MZI-3.7] .
- Inspect the ATF level (ATX). See. ENGINE COOLANT LEAKAGE INSPECTION [L5] .
- Perform the refrigerant system performance test. See. REFRIGERANT SYSTEM PERFORMANCE TEST .
