OWNER NOTIFICATION

TO:  Mazda Dealership Service Managers

DATE:  January 2014

SUBJECT:  Mazda Service Program (MSP) 42

2013-2014 CX-5, 2014-2015 Mazda6, 2013-2014 CX-9, 2013 Mazda3

TomTom Navigation System Software Update

Mazda Motor Corporation has decided to conduct a Mazda Service Program (MSP) on certain 2013-2014 CX-5, 2014-2015 Mazda6, 2013-2014 CX-9, 2013 Mazda3 vehicles equipped with TomTom Navigation System. This includes both factory-installed and dealer-installed accessory navigation systems for the affected models.

A new, improved version of the TomTom navigation system software is now available. Under MSP42, dealers will reprogram the navigation system of applicable vehicles to the new version. This software update includes the major fixes described below, and will also fix some additional minor concerns.

MSP42 should be completed on all applicable vehicles in dealer inventory and when owners bring their vehicles for maintenance or other service/warranty work.  Please inform the customer that the navigation unit will be reprogrammed to the updated calibration, free of charge, and explain that some personal settings (such as favorite locations and itineraries) may be lost during the reprogramming.

Warranty claims for MSP42 will be accepted during the Mazda's New Vehicle Limited Warranty term of 36 months or 36,000 miles. DSM authorization is required if the vehicle is outside the New Vehicle Limited Warranty term.

IMPORTANT: Please remind your Service Consultants to run a Warranty Vehicle Inquiry using eMDCS for every vehicle that comes through your service drive.  This report will indicate if the vehicle is applicable to MSP42, as well as any other open Special Service Program (SSP) or Recall.
NOTE: VINs with dealer-installed accessory TomTom navigation may not appear on eMDCS as involved in MSP42, but repairs on these vehicles should be performed.

A Mazda Service Program (MSP) is designed to improve customer satisfaction and reduce customer inconvenience. However, MSPs are limited to correcting issues that do not substantially affect vehicle durability, reliability, or performance. Vehicle owners are not notified by mail for MSPs.

Like a Recall or SSP, eMDCS will display MSP42 in an eMDCS Warranty Vehicle Inquiry on an applicable vehicle. The eMDCS system will display "OPEN" if the MSP repair has not been performed. It displays "CLOSED" if it has already been performed. Select the blue MSP42 on eMDCS to open Service Bulletin 09-010/14  , which provides repair procedures and warranty claim submission information. You can also access this bulletin on the MS3 site on MXConnect. A copy of the bulletin is enclosed for your convenience.

For technical assistance, call the Technical Assistance Hotline at (888) 832-8477. Select Option 3 for an English-speaking Hotline Specialist or Option 4 for a Spanish-speaking Hotline Specialist.
