DTC P0791:00 (FS5A-EL) DETECTION CONDITION AND POSSIBLE CAUSE

DTC P0791:00 Intermediate sensor circuit malfunction
DETECTION CONDITION
  • Under the following conditions, intermediate sensor signal is not input for 5 s
  • Selector lever position is D or M position
  • Vehicle speed is 40 km/h {25 mph} or more

Diagnostic support note
  • The check engine light illuminates if the TCM detects the above malfunction condition during the first drive cycle.
  • The automatic transaxle warning light illuminates if the TCM detects the above malfunction condition during the first drive cycle.
  • PENDING CODE is available.
  • FREEZE FRAME DATA is available.
  • The DTC is stored in the TCM memory.
FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION
  • Inhibits feedback control
POSSIBLE CAUSE
  • Intermediate sensor connector or terminal malfunction
  • Open circuit in wiring harness between intermediate sensor terminal A and AT main relay terminal C
  • Short to GND in wiring harness between intermediate sensor terminal A and AT main relay terminal C
  • Short to GND in wiring harness between intermediate sensor terminal B and TCM terminal AC
  • Short to power supply in wiring harness between intermediate sensor terminal B and TCM terminal AC
  • Open circuit in wiring harness between intermediate sensor terminal C and body GND
  • Intermediate sensor malfunction
  • TCM connector or terminal malfunction
  • Open circuit in wiring harness between intermediate sensor terminal B and TCM terminal AC
  • TCM malfunction
