Tailpipe Replacement

CAUTION:
  • Be careful not to deform the pipe when cutting it. If the pipe is deformed, it may not be possible to install the new tailpipe correctly.
  • Because the pipe is deformed if it is tightened using a U-shaped bolt, it may not be possible to install it correctly when reassembling. Therefore, if a U-shaped bolt has been already connected, replace the main silencer as a single unit.
  1. Remove the main silencer. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  2. Cut the tailpipe at the position shown in the illustration.

  3. Remove burrs from the pipe cut surface (main silencer side) using a file.
  4. Verify if the pipe is deformed.
    • If the pipe is deformed, repair it using a hammer as shown in the illustration.

  5. Install the main silencer. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    WARNING:
    • Use silicone sealant with a heat-resistant temperature of 800°C {1472°F} or more. If silicone sealant with low heat-resistant temperature is used, it could ignite due to the heat of the main silencer.
  6. Apply silicone sealant to the inner surface of the shaded area shown in the illustration.

  7. Pass the main silencer pipe through a U-shaped bolt.
  8. Assemble the tailpipe with the hole shown in the illustration facing down.

    CAUTION:
    • Do not loosen the U-shaped bolt after tightening it. If it is loosened, the specified torque cannot be attained even if it is tightened to the specified value for the bolt projection allowance after tightening.
    • Tighten the U-shaped bolt in three or four steps, left and right equally, to prevent clamp deformation.
  9. Install the U-shaped bolt to the tailpipe as shown in the illustration.

  10. Tighten the U-shaped bolt.
