Automatic Transaxle Removal/Installation: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
CAUTION:
  • Verify that the torque converter stud bolts are inserted into the drive plate bolt holes, and install the transaxle installation bolts. Otherwise, the drive plate could be damaged.
  1. Verify that the torque converter stud bolts are inserted into the drive plate bolt holes from the starter installation hole.

  2. Install the transaxle mounting bolts.

  3. Install the protector.

  4. Tighten the stud bolts for the transaxle.

    CAUTION:
    • If the No. 4 engine mount bracket nut is loosened, tighten the stud bolts for the transaxle because they may be loosened.
  5. Install the No. 4 engine mount bracket and the No. 4 engine mount rubber, and temporarily tighten the bolts shown in the figure.

  6. Lift up the transaxle using the SSTs, pass the stud bolt through the No. 4 engine mount rubber, and temporarily tighten the No. 4 engine mount rubber installation nuts.

  7. Install the No. 1 engine mount bracket, and tighten the installation bolts in the order shown in the figure.

  8. Install the transfer. (See TRANSFER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  9. Install the front crossmember component and No. 1 engine mount rubber as a single unit. (See FRONT CROSSMEMBER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (US) .)
  10. Temporarily tighten the No. 1 engine mount rubber installation bolts.

  11. Align the nuts and bolts shown in the figure with the alignment marks.

  12. Tighten the No. 4 engine mount rubber installation nuts and the No. 4 engine mount bracket installation bolts in the order shown in the figure.

  13. Remove the SSTs.
  14. Install the protector.

  15. Connect the hose clamp to the engine shown in the figure.

  16. Install the bolts and clip shown in the figure.

  17. Tighten the No. 1 engine mount rubber installation bolts in the order shown in the figure.

  18. Install the propeller shaft. (See PROPELLER SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (US) .)
  19. Fix the crankshaft pulley to lock the torque converter against rotation.

    CAUTION:
    • After temporarily tightening the torque converter installation nut uniformly, tighten it to the specified torque.
  20. Tighten the torque converter installation nuts.
    NOTE:
    • There are six installation nuts.

  21. Install the service hole cover using the following procedure.
    1. Align the service hole cover so that its arrow is facing the front of the vehicle as shown in the figure.

    2. Move the service hole cover in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure and hook the service hole cover tab onto the converter housing.

    3. Install the service hole cover by pushing it in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure using the service hole cover tab as a pivot.
    4. Verify that the service hole cover is securely installed.
  22. Install the blind cover.

  23. Install the starter. (See STARTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(VIN Y) (US)] .)
  24. Install the front drive shaft (RH) to the transfer. (See FRONT DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (US) .)
  25. Install the front drive shaft (LH) to the transaxle. (See FRONT DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (US) .)
  26. Connect the front stabilizer control links to the front stabilizer. (See FRONT STABILIZER INSTALLATION (US) .)
  27. Connect the front lower arms to the steering knuckles. (See FRONT LOWER ARM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (US) .)
  28. Connect the tie-rod ends to the steering knuckles. (See STEERING GEAR AND LINKAGE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (US) .)
  29. Install the water pipe bracket installation bolts.

  30. Install the wiring harness bracket.

  31. Tighten the wiring harness bracket installation bolts in the order shown in the figure.

  32. Connect the water hose to the oil cooler. (Automatic Transaxle Replacement) (See OIL COOLER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  33. Connect the oil cooler to the transaxle with the hose connected. (Except Automatic Transaxle Replacement) (See OIL COOLER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  34. Install the tunnel cover. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(VIN Y) (US)] .)
  35. Install the front tires. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  36. Connect the intermediate shaft (lower side) to the steering gear and linkage. (See INTERMEDIATE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (US) .)
  37. Install the joint cover. (See INTERMEDIATE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (US) .)
  38. Connect the breather hose to the transaxle.

  39. Install the selector cable bracket.

  40. Connect the selector cable to the transaxle. (See SELECTOR CABLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (US) .)
  41. Connect the ground cable to the No. 4 engine mount rubber.

  42. Connect the control valve body connector.
    CAUTION:
    • Make sure that your hand does not touch the terminal as the connector terminal could be damaged.
    • Verify that there is no fluid or foreign matter adhering to the connector before connecting the connector.
    • Insert the connector straight as the connector terminal could be damaged.
    • Rotate the connector lever until a click is heard.

  43. Install the splash shield. (See SPLASH SHIELD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  44. Install the front deflector. (See DEFLECTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  45. Install the turbocharger air outlet pipe component. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(VIN Y) (US)] .)
  46. Install the battery and battery tray. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(VIN Y) (US)] .)
  47. Install the following parts as a single unit. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(VIN Y) (US)] .)
    • Air cleaner cover
    • Air cleaner element
    • Fresh-air duct
    • Air cleaner case
    • Air hose
  48. Install the plug hole plate. (See PLUG HOLE PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(VIN Y) (US)] .)
  49. Connect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION (US) .)
  50. Refill the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [(VIN Y) (US)] .)
  51. Add the ATF. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (ATF) REPLACEMENT .)
  52. Install the front under cover No. 1. (See FRONT UNDER COVER No. 1 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  53. Install the front under cover No. 2. (See FRONT UNDER COVER No. 2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  54. If the automatic transaxle has been replaced, perform TCM configuration. (See TCM CONFIGURATION .)
  55. If the automatic transaxle has been replaced, perform the "Initial Learning". (See INITIAL LEARNING .)
  56. Perform the "Mechanical System Test". (See MECHANICAL SYSTEM TEST .)
