Shift Control Module Removal/Installation : Notes

Replacement Part 

Gasket Breather O-ring

  1. Shift the shift lever to the neutral position.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(US)] .)
  3. Remove the following parts as a single unit. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [VIN 7/VIN L] .)
    • Air cleaner cover
    • Air cleaner element
    • Fresh-air duct
    • Air cleaner case
    • Air hose
    • Resonance chamber
  4. Remove the battery. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [VIN 7/VIN L] .)
  5. Remove the battery tray and PCM component as a single unit. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [VIN 7/VIN L] .)
  6. Disconnect the control cable from the manual transaxle. (See CONTROL CABLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  7. Remove the bolts and set the wiring harness and wiring harness bracket in a place which does not interfere with servicing.

  8. Remove the neutral sensor. (See NEUTRAL SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  9. Remove the detent ball pin in the order shown in the figure.

  10. Remove the back-up light switch. (See BACK-UP LIGHT SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION  .)
  11. Remove the shift control module in the order shown in the figure.

  12. Install in the reverse order of removal.
