Liftgate Removal/Installation: Notes

WARNING:
  • Removing the liftgate without supporting the liftgate may cause the liftgate to fall off and injure you. When removing the liftgate, always use two persons to perform the work.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(US)] .)
  2. Remove the liftgate upper trim. (See LIFTGATE UPPER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  3. Disconnect the connectors and rear washer hose D shown in the figure.

  4. Remove the wiring harness clips shown in the figure.

  5. Remove the fasteners.

  6. Remove the weatherstrips.
  7. Partially peel the liftgate grommets in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure, and remove the liftgate grommets from the inner liftgate grommets. (See Liftgate Grommet Installation Note .)

  8. Using a remover tool, press the inner liftgate grommet tabs in the direction of arrows (1) and (2) shown in the figure and remove the inner liftgate grommet from the liftgate in the direction of arrow (3).

  9. Pull rear washer hose D and the wiring harness out of the liftgate through the liftgate grommet.
    WARNING:
    • If a malfunctioning PLG drive unit securing band is removed, the spring pressed into it may fly off and cause injury and damage to the vehicle. When removing a PLG drive unit securing band such as for one of the following malfunctions, perform the PLG drive unit preparation. (See POWER LIFTGATE (PLG) DRIVE UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    • The PLG does not stop at the fully opened position and it gradually descends.
    • The PLG drive unit is deformed or damaged for some reason such as the vehicle was in an accident.
  10. Insert a remover tool into the position shown in the figure.

  11. Move the remover tool in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and remove the securing band.
  12. Remove the bolts shown in the figure and remove the liftgate.

  13. Remove the stud balls. (When removing the stud balls.)

  14. Install in the reverse order of removal. (See Liftgate Grommet Installation Note .)
  15. Adjust the liftgate. (See LIFTGATE ADJUSTMENT .)
  16. Perform the 360° view monitor system aiming. (With 360° view monitor system) (See 360DEGREES VIEW MONITOR SYSTEM AIMING .)
