Rear Coil Spring Removal/Installation [AWD]: Notes

CAUTION:
  • Performing the following procedures could cause an open circuit in the rear ABS wheel-speed sensor wiring harness if it is pulled by mistake. Before servicing, disconnect the rear ABS wheel-speed sensor and set it aside so that the wiring harness will not be pulled by mistake.
NOTE:
  • Even when replacing only one of the left or right rear coil springs, to assure a space for the rear coil spring, remove the rear shock absorber lower side bolts on both the left and right sides so that the rear side of the torsion beam axle can be lowered.
  1. Remove the wheel and tire. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  2. Switch the ignition ON (engine off).
  3. Release the electric parking brake.
  4. Switch the ignition off while pressing the electric parking brake switch.
  5. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
  6. Disconnect the electric parking brake motor gear unit connector. (See ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE MOTOR GEAR UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  7. Remove the rear ABS wheel-speed sensor and the bracket from the wheel hub component.

  8. Remove the rear ABS wheel-speed sensor wiring harness and set it aside so that it does not interfere with the servicing.
  9. Remove the protector.

  10. Support the torsion beam axle using a jack.

    WARNING:
    • If the torsion beam axle falls off while it is removed/installed, it may cause serious injury or death, or vehicle damage. Always use a jack when removing/installing the torsion beam axle and verify that it is securely supported.
  11. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
  12. Install in the reverse order of removal.
