Electronically Controlled Brake Unit Removal/Installation [L.H.D.]: Notes

D-code 

  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
  2. Remove the windshield wiper arm and blade. (See WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM AND BLADE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (L.H.D.) ).
  3. Remove the front fender molding. (See FRONT FENDER MOLDING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  4. Remove the cowl grille. (See COWL GRILLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  5. Remove the windshield wiper motor and link. (See WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR AND LINK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  6. Remove using the procedure shown in the figure.
  7. Remove in the order indicated in the table.

  8. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  9. Remove the driver-side front scuff plate. (See FRONT SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  10. Remove the front side trim (left side). (See FRONT SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  11. Remove the decoration panel. (See DECORATION PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  12. Remove the driver-side lower panel. (See DRIVER-SIDE LOWER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (L.H.D.) ).
  13. Remove the driver-side knee air bag module. (See KNEE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  14. Remove the brake switch. (See BRAKE PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  15. Inspect the brake pedal. (See BRAKE PEDAL INSPECTION .)
  16. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  17. If the electronically controlled brake unit is replaced, perform the configuration. (Refer to [ Configuration] in the troubleshooting Information )
  18. If the electronically controlled brake unit is replaced, perform the following procedure.
    1. Return to the M-MDS operation and press [Continue].
    2. When the M-MDS processing is completed, press [Next].
    3. When the M-MDS processing is completed, press [Next].
    4. If the electronically controlled brake unit is replaced, perform the following procedure.
      • Ignition is switched ON (engine off)/main power is switched ON (READY off)
      • Install battery charger to vehicle
      • Battery voltage: 11.6 V or more
      • Connect power cable to M-MDS
      • Front doors on both sides and liftgate are open
    5. Press [Finish].
    6. Switch the ignition OFF/main power OFF.
    7. Switch the ignition ON (engine off)/main power ON (READY off) to complete global central configuration (GCC) for the electronically controlled brake unit. (Refer to [ GCC] in the troubleshooting information ).
    8. Clear the DTC.
    9. Perform the sensor initialization for the DSC-related parts. (See ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE UNIT RELATED PARTS SENSOR INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE ).
    10. Operate the electric parking brake switch using the following procedure to verify the operation of the electric parking brake and perform the automatic adjustment.

      1)  Switch the ignition ON (engine off)/main power ON (READY off).

      • If the electric parking brake cannot be operated, release it once and try again.
      • If the electric parking brake cannot be operated/released, perform a DTC inspection as a malfunction of the electric parking brake may have occurred. (Refer to [DTC INSPECTION ] in the troubleshooting information ).

      2)  Operate the electric parking brake.

      • If the electric parking brake indicator light does not turn on, the electric parking brake indicator light flashes, or the brake control system warning light does not turn off, perform a DTC inspection as a malfunction of the electric parking brake may have occurred. (Refer to [DTC INSPECTION ] in the troubleshooting information ).

      3)  Release the electric parking brake.

      4)  Verify that the electric parking brake indicator light and the brake control system warning light turn off.

      • If the electric parking brake indicator light and the brake control system warning light do not turn off, perform a DTC inspection as a malfunction of the electric parking brake may have occurred. (Refer to [DTC INSPECTION ] in the troubleshooting information ).

      5)  Operate the electric parking brake.

    11. Clear the DTC. (Refer to [CLEARING DTC ] in the troubleshooting information ).
    12. Verify that the following warning/indicator lights turn off.
      • ABS warning light
      • TCS/DSC operation indicator light
      • TCS OFF indicator light (Without Off-Road Traction Assist)
      • Off-Road Traction Assist indicator light (With Off-Road Traction Assist)
      • Brake control system warning light

    • If the warning/indicator lights do not turn off, perform a DTC inspection. (Refer to [DTC INSPECTION ] in the troubleshooting information ).
  19. Switch to the maintenance mode. (See MAINTENANCE MODE .)
  20. Add brake fluid, bleed the air, and inspect for fluid leakage. (See BRAKE FLUID AIR BLEEDING .)
  21. End the maintenance mode. (See MAINTENANCE MODE .)
  22. Using the M-MDS, implement the [Self-Diagnosing Brake Line] using the following procedure.
    1. Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
    2. Switch the ignition ON (engine off)/main power ON (READY off).
    3. Activate the M-MDS and perform the following procedure.

      1)  Press [Start] for the vehicle identification.

      2)  Press the [Toolbox] tab.

      3)  Press the [Work Support] icon.

      4)  Press [BRAKES].

      5)  Press [Run] on the self-diagnosing brake line.

  23. Clear the DTC. (Refer to [CLEARING DTC ] in the troubleshooting information ).
  24. Switch the ignition ON (engine on)/main power ON (READY on) and verify that the brake warning light turns off.

  25. Perform the power liftgate initialization. (See POWER LIFTGATE (PLG) INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE .)
