Body Control Module (BCM) Removal/Installation: At

  1. When replacing the body control module (BCM), perform the following procedure.
    1. Verify the setting values for the following.
      • Personalization features
      • Vehicle status monitor
        NOTE:
    2. Verify if the following Mazda genuine accessories are installed.
      • Rear Camera
        NOTE:
        • The accessory differs depending on the market or period of manufacture.
        CAUTION:
        • If the body control module (BCM) is replaced, Mazda genuine accessories stop functioning. If the body control module (BCM) is replaced, perform the accessory activation.
    3. If the body control module (BCM) is replaced, perform the following procedure.
      1. Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
      2. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
      3. Perform the following procedure using the M-MDS.
        1. Press [Start] for the vehicle identification.
        2. Press the [Toolbox] tab.
        3. Press the [Work Support] icon.
        4. Press [Configuration].
        5. Press [Run] for [Configuration].
        6. Press [BCM].
    4. Perform the servicing following the instructions on the screen.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
  3. Remove the scuff plate (driver's side). (See SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  4. Remove the front side trim (driver's side). (See FRONT SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  5. Remove the BCM connectors shown in the figure.

  6. Remove the bolt.

  7. Pull the BCM in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and detach the hook from the body.

  8. Remove the BCM.
  9. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  10. If the body control module (BCM) is replaced, perform the following procedure.
    1. Perform the body control module (BCM) configuration using the M-MDS.
      1. Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
      2. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
      3. Perform the following procedure using the M-MDS.
        CAUTION:
        • If the configuration fails, perform the configuration again.
        1. Press [Start] for the vehicle identification.
        2. Press the [Toolbox] tab.
        3. Press the [Work Support] icon.
        4. Press [Configuration].
        5. Press [Run] for [Configuration].
        6. Press [BCM].
      4. Perform the configuration following the instructions on the screen.
        CAUTION:
        • When performing the configuration, CAN communication is cut temporarily and communication error DTCs may be detected. After performing the configuration, perform the DTC inspection and clear DTCs if any are displayed.
      5. Perform the DTC inspection. (Refer to [DTC INSPECTION ] )
        • If a DTC is displayed, clear it. (Refer to [CLEARING DTC ] )
          • If the DTC is displayed again, repair or replace the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
      6. If the configuration fails, perform the configuration procedure again.
    2. Immobilizer system-related part programming. (Refer to IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM-RELATED PARTS PROGRAMMING [SECURITY AND LOCKS] )
    3. Vehicle control module (VCM) initial setting. (Refer to VCM INITIAL SETTING [CONTROL SYSTEM] )
    4. Activating remote control by smart phone. (Refer to ACTIVATING REMOTE CONTROL BY SMART PHONE )
    5. Perform the DTC inspection. (Refer to [DTC INSPECTION ] )
      • If a DTC is displayed, clear it. (Refer to [CLEARING DTC ] )
    6. If configuration is performed using the As-Built data, input the setting values for the following verified before replacing the BCM.
      • Personalization features
      • Vehicle status monitor
      NOTE:
    7. Activate the Mazda genuine accessories verified before the part replacement. (Refer to ACCESSORY ACTIVATION . )
