Fig 1: Identifying Fuel Gauge Sensor Components
G04633149IMPORTANT
Fuel gage sensor - location The fuel gage sensor is inserted into the fuel tank by means of a bayonet lock
Fuel gage sensor - task Determining the fuel level in the fuel tank
Fuel gage sensor - design The fuel gage sensor (B4) is a lever-type sensor with sliding contacts (potentiometer)
Fuel gage sensor - function The resistance of the fuel gage sensor (B4) is analyzed in the fuel gage electronics. Example model 208:
Low resistance = fuel tank empty
High resistance = fuel tank full
IMPORTANT
If there is an open circuit in the wiring the fuel gage in the instrument cluster indicates empty; the fuel reserve warning lamp (A1e4) does not come on.
