The compression spring (51/4) in the holder body (51/5) acts against the pressure pin (51/2) which presses the nozzle needle (50/2). The preload of the compression spring (51/4) determines the opening pressure of the fuel injection nozzle and can be adjusted by changing the thickness of the shim (51/7). The fuel flows to the seat of the injection nozzle via the feed bore (51/8) of the holder body (51/5), the intermediate disk (51/1) and the nozzle body. (50/3)

During injection, the nozzle needle (50/2) lifts from its seat when the nozzle opening pressure is reached and the fuel is forced through the annular gap at the throttling pintle and sprayed as a fine mist into the prechamber.

Once the fuel pressure drops below the opening pressure of the injection nozzle, the compression spring (51/4) forces the nozzle needle (50/2) back into its seat.
